Volunteers in Pathein usually teach IT Literacy to 4 sections of 4 learners each (total 12 learners) in each term (2 months). From Sep. 12 (Mon) MST, a volunteer has started a special term (2 months) to teach IT Literacy at a village in Patein area. While she stays in the village, she teaches 4 lessons almost everyday and 7 sections of 4 learners each (28 learners in total).

EIT Pro started training of three trainees (1st Generation) on Sep 27, 2021. On last Sunday Oct 23, 15 EIT Pro members had a dinner together for celebrating the 1st anniversary of EIT Pro. A place for training was initially a small room in a house of our Managing Director. At that time, everybody was very concerned about COVID-19 because it was just after a peak of COVID-19 wave by the Delta variant in Myeik, Myanmar. Then, within one year, EIT Pro moved to 3-story office space in April and currently has 10 trainees (1st, 2nd, 3rd Gen). Looking back the past one year makes us amazed how drastically & quickly EIT Pro has been developed. We hope EIT Pro will be able to celebrate an anniversary every year and continue to grow well.

MEIT had the 1st "Open House" event. We invited parents of the current learners, neighbors, and those people who are involved in education or interested in our activities. A few dozen people visited the Open House at the EIT Learning Campus of MEIT located at Market Garden on the Strand Road (business disctrict of Myeik city).

The EIT managing director (also the founder & owner of Digital ZeeKwet) greeted our guests, introduced them EIT, and explained its activities.

The IT coach of EIT Pro explained the guests what & how he trains EIT Pro trainees. He also showed a demonstration of our website using QR-code. EIT Pro trainees helped the guests access our website via QR-code by scanning it with their mobile phones.

EIT Pro trainees and instructors of MEIT contributed to make the Open House event successful. After presentations of EIT activities, they talked with guests and answered their questions while the guests had coffee and snacks.

After the Open House event, children who learn English in the Kokua-Kids course came and had snacks before the class started.

MEIT will open a computer lab with a few laptops outside classrooms from May 2nd (Mon) and offer tutorship to EIT Pro trainees who answer questions from learners using the laptops there. This has two purposes.
    • Most learners in the PB (Programming Basics) courses do not have their own computers and hence they have little time to practice programming outside class hours. The "Computer Lab" intends to provide PB learners with more opportunities of using our laptops (a very limited number though) for their self-study.
    • Many of EIT Pro trainees have financial difficulties amid social unrest and ongoing inflation. MEIT offers a compensation (a small amount though) to tutors for their amount of time serving as a tutor at the lab.

From April 5, 2022 (Tue) MST, a volunteer in Honolulu has started online English lessons to two 1st Gen EIT Pro trainees who have decent written skills, but need to improve speaking skills. The volunteer is a native speaker with teaching experiences and gives 60-min lessons twice a week. If this will work well, EIT Pro will look for another volunteer.

From April 2022, MEIT has started to offer courses of English and IT to the youth in Myeik. Many of the courses are prerequisites of applications for admission to EIT Pro. The attached diagram shows a new curriculum of EIT Kokua and EIT Pro after their reorganization.

MEIT offers a series of Programming Basics (PB) courses (PDF), a series of English Basics on Internet (EB-Net) courses, and a series of English Basics on Bisuness (EB-Biz) courses (PDF). PB is a substitute of IT-PB that is for new EIT Pro trainees, but will be terminated. EB-Net is an introductory version of Technical Communication: Reading & Writing Skills (TC-RW) that was given to the 1st Gen trainees. EB-Biz is completely new.

On April 9, 2022 (Sat) MST, MEIT has started 2 sections of a new course "Programming Basics Part 1" (PB-1) that is a prerequisite of applications for admission to EIT Pro. Each section has 8 learners, totally 16 learners. PB-1 gives them 90-min lessons twice a week for about 12 weeks. Subsequent courses PB-2 and PB-3 of the series "Programming Basics" will be offered thereafter. Each course of the series takes about 3 months.

EIT is reorganizing EIT Kokua program (free lessons of English and IT literacy) in Myeik and EIT Pro for more effective operations. For the reorganization, we have created a non-profit EIT school @ Myeik (MEIT) that combines EIT Kokua in Myeik and introductory programming courses of EIT Pro. EIT Pro will focus training only on topics at relatively higher levels. We plan to officially establish MEIT in Jan. 2023 after a dry run of its management & operations from April 1, 2022.

On March 31, 2022 (Thu) MST, we have had an inauguration ceremony of the new office for MEIT. There are two classrooms (one for each of English and IT).

EIT Pro has offered tutorship to three 1st Gen trainees that gives tutors a small amount of compensation comparable to an hourly wage of a undergraduate student helper at a university in US with considerations of a raio 1 : 0.1 between living costs in US and Myanmar. Tutors not only help three new 2nd Gen trainees in Programming Basics, but also play a key role in a process of onboarding the new trainees as their mentors.

    Orientation:     1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
    Agenda:
    1. Setup of a Laptop of Each 2nd Gen Trainee for Programming Basics with Guidance of a Tutor
    2. Kickstart of EIT Pro Training Presented by 3 Tutors (1st Gen Trainees)
    3. Newbie’s Common Troubles & Troubleshooting & Solutions Suggested by Tutors

Now, together with the existing 4 trainees, EIT Pro has 8 trainees. Among the 8 trainees, 2 trainees had some programming experiences at a computer university before they have joined EIT Pro whereas the other 6 trainees started EIT Pro training from scratch with no prior experience.

EIT Pro 1st Generation trainees have successfully completed training (Programming Basics and TechComm RW I) in the 1st season (4 months). They learned programming in JavaScript and became able to create a website Kickstart that gives informative tips to new trainees for helping them kickstart their training.

It is quite impressive that the three 1st Gen trainees had no prior experience of programming at all and have developed IT & English skills enough for building such a website from scratch within a short period of time (Thanks to great jobs done by the IT coach!).

A volunteer of EIT Kokua @ Pathein sent us photos of IT Literacy tutorial at the 2nd village in a suburb of #Pathein, #Ayeyarwady Region. These 8 learners (4 in each of 2 sections) will complete the tutorial within several more lessons.

EIT Kokua @ Pathein finished the first term (2 months) in which 8 learners successfully completed "IT Literacy Tutorial" with oral presentations using PowerPoint in the last lesson on Jan. 5, 2022 (See photos). On Jan. 6, 2022, a new term has started to offer 2 sections of the IT tutorial. From Dec. 2021, a volunteer in another village in the Pathein area also started to offer 2 sections (totally 8 learners) of the IT tutorial.

It has been 3 months since EIT Pro started training of 3 trainees (1st Generation) on Sep. 27, 2021. The current term of training will end in late Jan. 2022 (only one more month left!).

The 3 trainees have been doing great and have learned a lot in such a short period of time through intensive training by coaches. The next term of training will start on Jan. 31, 2022 (Mon).

EIT Pro has decided admission of 3 new trainees (2nd Generation) who will start training on Programming Basics and TechComm Oral Communication. The 1st Gen. trainees will continue training on Front-End Programming and TechComm Oral Communication. In addition, EIT Pro will offer an elective topic TechComm SNS Marketing to all the 6 trainees.

EIT Kokua Program @ Pathein has finally started on Nov. 11, 2021 (Thu) MST (2021-11-11: Lucky Five 1's)! A volunteer group for EIT in #Pathein area in #Ayeyarwady Region has started classes on IT Literacy to students who have not had a chance to learn IT. EIT Kokua @ Pathein currently forms two sections and gives learners 1-hour lessons twice a week for about 14 weeks (about 3 months).
  • Oct. 26, 2021
EIT Pro starts lessons of English Basics from the next week for 3 provisional trainees who will be the 2nd generation trainees starting from Feb. 2022. A coach will give them in-person lessons (90 min each) twice a week. English Basics intends to have the trainees acquire basic English skills, yet enough to learn by using online information mostly written in English.

Because the existing 3 trainees of the 1st generation had basic English skills beforehand, they were waived English Basics and will take online lessons of TechComm RW I from the next week.
  • Oct. 12, 2021
EIT Pro plans to start lessons of TechComm RW I from Nov. 1, 2021. It aims at helping the existing trainees develop two crucial reading skills.
    • Quick & accurate comprehension of the essence of technical information
    • Quick search for useful & reliable sources of information
Trainees will also improve their basic writing skills for the following tasks because communication among a coach and the trainees is primarily done through text messaging on a channel of Slack.
    • Communication by messaging
    • Write a concise report or a summary
A draft of its syllabus is also posted.
  • Sep. 27, 2021
We have finally started training of EIT Pro (renamed from EIT Professional Development Program). Three trainees who have no prior experience of programming started to learn JavaScript together with HTML & CSS in bi-weekly 90-min sessions on "Programming Basics" and develop the foundation of their programming skills. Our coach initially planned to use C# for trainees to learn basic concepts of programming. However, the coach has changed to use JavaScript instead. This training is expected to take several months.

EIT Pro was originally planned to start on Aug. 2, 2021 though, it has been postponed because COVID-19 (likely the delta variant) surged in Myeik city area since July 2021. In addition, Tatmadaw ordered a lockdown of Myeik from Aug. 21 to Sep. 21, 2021. According to a volunteer group that keeps track of the daily number of new cases, the daily number was peaked around 60s (probably the actual number was higher because many people cannot take PCR tests nor visit a hospital even if they have mild symptoms or have close contact to COVID-19 patients) per about 200,000 population in mid-Aug. The daily number of new cases has been decreased to a single digit in mid-Sep. Because the lockdown ended and was not extended, we have decided to start our training on Sep. 27, 2021.
